What are the three buckets?

Every function lands in one of three:

• Automate. Repetitive, rule-based work AI or software can run with light oversight.
• Augment. Skilled work where AI speeds a person up but the person still decides.
• Protect. Work that needs a human and breaks without one.

Why can't AI automate chaos?

AI runs a process. It cannot invent one. Point it at a task that lives in someone's head with no defined steps and it amplifies the mess. A function has to be a system before it can be automated. Map the steps first, then automate. Order before automation, every time.

How do you sort each function?

Walk through your business function by function and ask:

• Is it rule-based and repetitive? If yes, automate.
• Does a skilled person do it faster with a tool? If yes, augment.
• Does it need human judgment, trust, or taste? If yes, protect.

Most functions sort quickly. The interesting ones sit on a line, and those are where you decide deliberately.

How do you pick your top three moves?

A full map is overwhelming if you act on all of it at once. Pick three. Choose the moves with the highest value and the least friction, do those well, then return for the next three. Progress comes from a few finished moves, not a hundred started ones.
